I’m lucky enough to work with clients who enjoy weight training for more than just the superficial or cosmetic reasons. Not everyone heads to the gym for the sole purpose of losing weight. And although there’s nothing wrong with the goal of weight loss, the photoshopped and airbrushed images of “perfect bodies” on fitness magazines and ads portray a warped image of fitness and health. Getting stronger and gaining confidence, feeling less “old” (LOL that was an actual reason, perhaps one of mine…), feeling a sense of accomplishment, and getting mobility back were all some of the things clients have told me in the gym.
It made me think….I really gotta write this stuff down!
I recently polled some clients and asked them to give me the top reasons why they love to train with weights. The winner (the first to respond) received a bottle of Lemon Flavored fish oil from Biopharma Scientific.
Here’s what you said:
“Once I started lifting weights the asthma faded. I was so happy and decided then this was a life long commitment on my part. Also I love being strong and sculpted.” (The winner)
“It makes me feel physically strong and powerful, like I can accomplish anything! I also love the way it is changing my body, I can actually start to see an outline of a muscle when I am training and this keeps me motivated to keep going!” (T. Gerin)
“I love training because it makes me feel strong and empowered. Plus I like nice arms 🙂 ” (E. Yeh)
“Makes me stronger mentally as well as physically, increases my sex drive, I will be capable of taking care of myself as I grow older-wont need anybody pushing me around in a wheelchair, because I can, and I love it.” (S. Winslow)
“1) when I lift a challenging weight and consistently get stronger I feel like I can take on anything! Especially when I’m the only girl throwing weights around in the gym. 2) getting the question “what have you been doing?” (in response to muscle tone).” (M. McNabb)
“Stress relief, To hear people say: “I can tell you workout”, Push myself to my limits and then exceed it.” -K. Tillman
“para buena salud y sentirse bien con uno mismo” (Translation: for good health and to feel good about one’s self)- A. Diaz
“I want to be the next Hulk.” (Anonymous gym rat)
And there you have it! So train hard, train forever, and see you in the gym!
